Citrus College Superintendent/President Participates in High-Profile Speaking Engagements

by Stacy Armstrong

Citrus College Superintendent/President Dr. Geraldine M. Perri spoke at numerous ceremonies and celebrations held on campus during the final weeks of the 2009-2010 academic year.  However, two of her most notable speaking engagements occurred off campus.

First, Dr. Perri served as a panel moderator for Fielding Graduate University’s 2nd Annual Online Summer Institute for Community Colleges (OSICC) on June 9 and 10.  Co-hosted by Fielding Graduate University and Learning Times, the two-day seminar drew administrators from community colleges nationwide who were interested in learning more about leadership development.  Martha Kanter, the U.S. Undersecretary for Education and former Chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District, served as the keynote speaker.

On June 17, Dr. Perri served as a panelist during the YWCA San Gabriel Valley’s Life and Leadership in a Diverse and Changing World Conference and 26th Annual Women of Achievement Awards Luncheon.  An estimated 500 individuals attended this special event, which is designed to empower and uplift women from the San Gabriel Valley.  Dr. Perri was one of two speakers during a panel discussion entitled, “Women of Power:  Being a Leader in a Diverse and Changing World.”  After making a 30-minute presentation, she fielded questions from the audience regarding what is needed to be successful in today’s workplace.

Geraldine M. Perri, Ph.D., is superintendent/president of the Citrus Community College District, which serves the San Gabriel Valley/Foothill communities of Azusa, Claremont, Duarte, Glendora, and Monrovia.  A community college graduate herself, she holds an associate degree in dental hygiene from the City University of New York (Hostos Community College).  She received her doctorate in human and organizational development from the Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, where she also earned a master’s degree in organizational development.  In addition, Dr. Perri holds a master’s of health education degree and bachelor’s of science degree from New York University.  She has completed Harvard University’s Institute for Management and Leadership in Education and Cornell University’s Community College Administrative Leadership Institute.

When she joined the Citrus College community in July 2008, Dr. Perri became the institution’s seventh superintendent/president.
