Citrus College Superintendent/President Included On Circle of 100 Tree of Life

Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College, was recently honored by Hostos Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY) at its Circle of 100 Tree of Life unveiling ceremony.

Students from Hostos Community College’s Dental Hygiene Program made a sizeable donation to the Hostos Alumni Relations Office's Circle of Life, a membership group supporting the educational goals and aspirations of the college's student body.  The donation was made in honor of Dr. Perri, one of the program's most accomplished graduates.

"This recognition is meaningful to me on many levels," said Dr. Perri.  "Not only am I touched by the fact that students have contributed personal funds to help others in need, but I am overwhelmed with gratitude that this generous gift was made in my name.  This is an incredible honor, to say the least."

To commemorate the donation, Dr. Perri's name was included on the Hostos Alumni  Circle of 100 Tree of Life.  This unique piece of art depicts a ceiba tree with fruit that bears the names of donors.  It is designed to serve as a symbol of vitality, strength, and growth.

"I am extremely proud to be part of the exceptional history of Hostos Community College," Dr. Perri said.  "This outstanding institution afforded me many opportunities.  I was fortunate to receive an outstanding education as a dental hygienist at Hostos. It was there that I also had my first teaching experience as an adjunct dental hygiene faculty member.  I later became a tenured, full-time associate professor and eventually was appointed associated dean of academic affairs.  This special honor provides a lasting legacy at a college that is near and dear to my heart.”

Inclusion on the Circle of 100 Tree of Life is only one of several recent recognitions Dr. Perri has received.  In fact, she was previously honored during a reception of the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Hostos Community College Dental Hygiene Program in May.  That same month, she was recognized by the Cuyamaca College Foundation in San Diego for her service as their past college president.

“We are very lucky to have such a talented, insightful and capable individual at the helm of Citrus College,” said Dr. Patricia Rasmussen, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees.  “Considering Dr. Perri’s passion for education and her commitment to excellence, it is not surprising that she frequently receives recognition.  I can’t think of a more deserving individual.  Citrus College is very proud of her.”

Dr. Perri credits her professional success and many accomplishments to the community college educational system she proudly serves.

"In many ways, my career serves as a validation of the mission of community colleges," Dr. Perri said.  "I am a firm believer and advocate of community college education.  My personal experiences serve as an example of what is possible through these important institutions of higher education.  Community colleges transform lives, open doors, and provide a pathway toward employment, additional education, a professional career, and a more enriched life."
