By Rachel White

Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College, was honored by the YWCA San Gabriel Valley at their recent 27th Annual Women of Achievement Awards luncheon.

“I am honored to be recognized by the YWCA San Gabriel Valley, an organization that makes such a positive impact on our community,” said Dr. Perri. “Serving as superintendent/president of Citrus College for the past three years, I appreciate the relationship I have developed with the YWCA, as its mission aligns with what we strive to accomplish at Citrus College. It is especially meaningful to be recognized for my work as an educator and administrator. I love coming to work each day because I know we are making a difference by empowering others to live a better and more successful life through education.”

A diverse panel of professionals reviewed nominations for the Women of Achievement Awards. Recipients were selected for achieving extraordinary success in their field of work, study or volunteer service and exemplifying the mission of the YWCA, which is to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

“Citrus College congratulates Dr. Perri on her most recent accomplishment as recipient of the YWCA Women of Achievement Award,” said Dr. Patricia Rasmussen, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees. “She has made it her personal mission to serve as an advocate for Citrus College by working diligently to establish connections with businesses and organizations in the communities we serve, including the San Gabriel Valley YWCA. Dr. Perri appreciates the power of education as an agent for social change and leads the college in its commitment to diversity and inclusion. I can think of no one more deserving of this honor than our superintendent/president!”

Dr. Perri has been a community college faculty member and administrator for over 30 years.   In July 2008, she became the seventh superintendent/president of Citrus College. Under Dr. Perri’s leadership, the college has made significant progress including reaffirmation of accreditation; strategic planning and educational and facilities master planning; emergency preparedness; updating board policies and administrative procedures; and the completion of several building/facilities projects.
