Glendora Community Leader to Serve as President of Citrus Community College District Governing Board

By Paula Green

Dr. Patricia Rasmussen, community leader and member of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees, was installed as board president during the board’s annual organizational meeting.

Dr. Rasmussen was first elected to represent the City of Glendora and portions of Azusa and San Dimas in 2007.  This will be her first term as president.

“It is an honor to serve as president of the Citrus College board of trustees,” Dr. Rasmussen said.  “In spite of the challenges the current economic and budgetary crises present, the faculty, administrators and staff are committed to providing educational opportunities  that will enable our students and the members of our communities to earn an associate degree, transfer to a four-year college or university, prepare for a career, and succeed in life.  I am confident that Citrus College, along with community colleges across the nation, will play a significant role in producing the next generation of college-educated citizens and employees who will contribute to our nation’s economic recovery.”

A resident of Glendora for nearly 40 years, Dr. Rasmussen is a career educator and has an extensive history of community service.  She taught English and journalism at the high school and college levels, and for 22 years held administrative positions at Citrus and Mt. San Antonio colleges.  Dr. Rasmussen was a community ambassador for former Senator Bob Margett, served on the Glendora Unified School District’s bond oversight committee, and is an active member of the Glendora Kiwaniannes. Her honors include the 59th Assembly District Woman of the Year and the Glendora Coordinating Council Humanitarian Award.

Dr. Rasmussen holds an associate of arts degree in English/journalism from El Camino College; a bachelor’s degree in English from San Diego State University; a master’s degree in communications from California State University, Fullerton; and a doctorate in educational management from the University of La Verne.

Also installed during the annual reorganization meeting were Vice President Joanne Montgomery, representing Monrovia and portions of Bradbury and Duarte and Clerk/Secretary Dr. Edward C. Ortell, representing Duarte and portions of Arcadia, Azusa, and Monrovia.   Susan M. Keith, representing Claremont and portions of Azusa, La Verne, and Pomona and Gary L. Woods, representing Azusa and portions of Covina, Glendora, and Irwindale are also members of the Board.
