Dr. Gerald Sequeira of Los Angeles has been selected as Citrus College’s new dean of admissions and records.  He began his tenure on September 4, 2012.

The employment of Dr. Sequeira was approved during the August 2012 meeting of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees.

“The Admissions and Records Department plays the important role of starting students on their academic journeys,” said Mrs. Joanne Montgomery, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees.  “Dr. Sequeira has extensive experience in education, specifically in the area of admissions.  We believe that his knowledge and expertise will enable this vital department to build upon its excellent work and support student success well into the future.”

Dr. Sequeira comes to Citrus College from the El Camino College Compton Center, where he served as the director of admissions and records.  In this position, his duties included managing the processes of the Admissions and Records Office, as well as the Assessment Center.  He also was responsible for chairing the Planning and Budget Committee, chairing the registration subcommittee of Enrollment Management and serving as the registrar for the former Compton College.

Prior to working at the El Camino College Compton Center, Dr. Sequeira served four years as the director of admissions and financial aid at the William S. Boyd School of Law in Las Vegas.  He has also worked as a field attorney for the National Labor Relations Board in Las Vegas. and as a research assistant at the University of California, Los Angeles’s (UCLA) School of Law.

This past work experience has provided Dr. Sequeira with an appreciation for the important role admissions plays in the education process.  This, combined with his familiarity with the community college system, has prepared him well for his new role.

“Becoming part of the Citrus College family is a thrill.  I am looking forward to joining a strong management team and working with all of my new colleagues,” he said.  “My aim is to make sure that the Admission and Records and Financial Aid offices at Citrus College continue to assist students in achieving their educational goals, while also providing quality service to the entire college community.”

Dr. Sequeira holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from UCLA and a juris doctor from the UCLA School of Law.  He is also a member of the State Bar of California.

An impressive educational and professional background has equipped Dr. Sequeira with skills that will prove beneficial to his new role at Citrus College, says Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president.

“The Citrus College Admissions and Records Office is responsible for providing students with a variety of essential services, such as enrollment processing, course registration, and transcript management,” she said.  “Dr. Sequeira’s background in this specific area, combined with his remarkable academic credentials, makes him an excellent fit for this administrative position.  I believe that he will play a significant role in enhancing the delivery of services that are instrumental to the success of our students.”
