SUCCESSFUL ALUMNI:  Azusa resident Bobby Pedroza (left), Claremont resident Cynthia Cervantes McGuire (center), and Monrovia resident Christopher Shevlin (right) were recently named Citrus College’s 2012 Alumni Achievement Award recipients.  Pedroza graduated from Citrus Union High School and Citrus College in 1954.  In addition to being a long-time volunteer in youth sports, he also helped found the Helping Hands of Azusa organization in 1969.  Cervantes McGuire was a member of the Citrus College class of 1973 and recently retired as the superintendent of the Azusa Unified School District.  Having worked 37 years as an educator, she has a strong commitment to education and was selected as the 2011 Superintendent of the Year by Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education.  Shevlin transferred from Citrus College to California State University, Long Beach in 1972.  After earning his bachelor’s degree, he began a distinguished career as a basketball referee.  He also began volunteering in the local community, winning the For the Love of Youth Award from the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills in early 2012.
