by Stacy Armstrong

Claremont resident Celeste Palmer was recently appointed to the Citrus College Foundation Board of Directors.

Palmer, whose extensive professional background includes experience in marketing and education, joins a 23-member volunteer board that is responsible for governing the non-profit organization.

“My interaction with Ben Bollinger, the retired Citrus College Dean of Fine and Performing Arts and owner of the Candlelight Pavilion, as well as my acquaintance with current board member Nancy Magnusson, increased my awareness of the wonderful work Citrus College does on a daily basis,” Palmer said.  “When this position with the Foundation fell into my lap, I was eager to take advantage of such a wonderful opportunity,”

As a member of the Board of Directors, Palmer is tasked with nurturing relationships that provide resources to further Citrus College’s mission of advancing students’ educational goals.

“I have a wonderful life and believe that my involvement with the college will allow me to give back to the community and express my gratitude for all that I have been given,” she said.

Palmer will be adding her new duties at Citrus College to a long list of community service activities.  In addition to serving on the Foundation’s Board of Directors, she is a member of the University Club of Claremont and founder of a non-profit organization for brain injury survivors.  She has also served as a volunteer at Pomona Valley Hospital and as a member of the American Business Women’s Association, Claremont Unified School District Budget Advisory Committee, and several local chambers of commerce.

“Celeste is committed to giving back to the community and shares our passion for empowering students.  These attributes, combined with a positive attitude and infectious enthusiasm, make her an excellent addition to our board,” said Tom Gerfen, president of the Citrus College Foundation.

Dr. Geraldine Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College, is eager to work with Palmer.

“Ms. Palmer’s experience and professional expertise have provided her with a unique perspective that promises to be extremely valuable as we work to support the mission of Citrus College,” she said.  “I look forward to collaborating with her and other Foundation members to garner the resources that will ensure student success.”
