Dr. Dana Hester has been selected as Citrus College’s new dean of social and behavioral sciences.  Her tenure began on March 20, 2013.

Hester has been a full-time faculty member in biology since August 1998.

“In her new role, Dr. Hester will oversee a variety of college departments that are cornerstones to our students’ development,” said Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College.  “Her knowledge and experience will be a tremendous asset to Citrus College as we continue to help students complete their educational goals.”

As the new dean of social and behavioral sciences, Hester will be providing leadership and support to the faculty and staff in curriculum development; class scheduling; budget planning; analysis and implementation for divisional academic programs; support of participatory governance structures; long-range planning; and program review.  The programs in the division include: Administration of Justice, Anthropology, Child Development, Economics, Geography, History, Humanities, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Social Science, Sociology,  Study Abroad, and Distance Education.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Hester graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown.  She received her Master’s of Science degree in biology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and earned her doctorate in educational leadership with an emphasis in community colleges from California State University, Fullerton.

Hester said she chose to work in a community college environment because she enjoys the diversity of students at the community college level.

“Everyone comes to us with unique strengths and challenges.  I also appreciate the true commitment to student learning and success that is provided by community colleges,” she said.

Mrs. Susan M. Keith, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees, said that Dr. Hester’s passion and past experience make her an ideal candidate for the position of dean.

“Dr. Hester is an excellent selection for this leadership position,” said Mrs. Susan M. Keith, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees.  “She brings an incredible amount of talent and enthusiasm to the position, and we are confident that she will do a spectacular job in her new role.”
