Vice President of Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees to Receive YWCA Honor

Dr. Patricia Rasmussen, vice president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees, will be honored by the YWCA San Gabriel Valley at its annual awards event on May 21, 2013 at the Industry Hills Expo Center in City of Industry.

The Glendora resident will receive an “Awards of Distinction:  Life’s Work” honor during the YWCA’s “2013 Women of Achievement in the Field of Education:  Honoring Passion, Dedication, and Achievement” ceremony.

“Education is central to the success of our nation.  Women have a dynamic and crucial role in the field of education,” the organization said in a press release.  “The YWCA San Gabriel Valley will be honoring extraordinary women and organizations that have impacted the field of education.”

Dr. Rasmussen is being recognized for her 40-year career in education.  Prior to being elected to serve as a member of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees in 2007, representing Glendora and portions of San Dimas, she was Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC), held several administrative positions at Citrus College, and spent years teaching English and journalism at the high school and college levels.

Eleven teachers and administrators, and two non-profit corporations are among this year’s honorees.  Dr. Rasmussen will be one of two recipients of the “Life’s Work” award.

“It is an honor to be recognized by the YWCA,” Dr. Rasmussen said.  “As both an educator and a resident of the San Gabriel Valley, I am passionate about empowering others and making a difference in my community.  It is especially meaningful to be honored by an organization that shares this passion and has such a long-standing commitment to making a positive impact on society.”

In addition to her work in the field of education, Dr. Rasmussen has been extremely active within her community.   She was a two-term member of the Glendora Unified School District Board of Education and served on the Glendora Public Library board.  She has also received many awards for her service, including the 59th Assembly District Woman of the Year and the Glendora Coordinating Council Humanitarian Award.

“Citrus College congratulates Trustee Rasmussen on this very special honor,” said Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College.  “She has made it her personal mission to advocate on behalf of all students, from the elementary school level to the community college level.  Her commitment to education and her extraordinary professional experience are inspirational.  With 40 years of experience as a career educator, she is truly deserving of this ‘Life’s Work’ award.”

Mrs. Susan M. Keith, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees, says she is happy for her colleague.

“It is a pleasure to serve beside Dr. Rasmussen on the Citrus Community College District Board.  Her passion for Citrus College and its students is undeniable,” Mrs. Keith said.  “We are all very appreciative of her many contributions to education and are pleased that her hard work is being recognized.”
