Extended Time
The standard amount of extended time is one and one half times the time allowed for a non-disabled student in class. The DSP&S counselor will determine how much time is appropriate.
Scribe
A scribe may be provided when the disability prevents the student from writing or word processing. Most often a student employee would provide this accommodation.
Reader
A reader may be provided when the student's disability prevents the student from doing his/her own reading. Most often a student employee would provide this accommodation.
CCTV, Large Print
A visually-impaired student may need an enlarged print version or be allowed to use the closed circuit TV for taking tests.
Computer
Occasionally the most efficient way for a disabled student to complete exams is through the use of a computer. The adapted computer equipment in the High Tech Center is available when it is the best option for testing. The DSP&S counselor/learning disabilities specialist will assist with setting up this accommodations.
Distraction-Reduced Exam Space
Because of their disability, some students require a testing area that is reduced in the distraction from other students and incidental noises that are unavoidable in a standard classroom. Cubicles for individual work within a quiet room are provided for this purpose.
