No longer a newcomer to Citrus College, Deanna Smedley joined the counseling team in August 2006. Prior to coming to Citrus, Deanna earned an associate in arts degree from Mt. San Antonio College, a bachelor of arts degree in Communications from California State University, Fullerton and a master of science degree in Educational Counseling from the University of La Verne.
Deanna decided she wanted to become a college counselor when she took a Career/Life Planning course at Mt. San Antonio College. She fell in love with the idea of helping students achieve their goals through counseling and teaching. She enjoys counseling students one-on-one or in groups about academic, career or personal concerns. She also enjoys teaching college success strategies, career/life planning courses and conducting workshops. She adds, "This is the best career that I could have ever asked for because I love what I do and really enjoy the diverse student populations I work with on a daily basis." Deanna is proud to be part of her profession and wants all her students to be able to say that about the respective professions they choose.
Deanna Smedley has a genuine desire to help community college students achieve their goals. Being a first generation minority community college student herself, she can relate to the first time jitters and excitement that all students are experiencing as they transition into higher education and especially minority students. She is excited to participate in the Citrus College Summer Bridge 2010 program and anticipates fun and success for both herself and her students.
