National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant

The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant, is designed to encourage high-school students to take more challenging courses by being in a rigorous program of study. This (Smart) Grant is awarded to students who are majoring in physical, life or computer science, engineering, mathematics, technology, or a critical foreign language.  Awards for a National SMART Grant are up to $4,000 per academic year.

To receive this grant, you must:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen;
  • Be a Federal Pell Grant Recipient;
  • Be enrolled full-time in a degree program;
  • Be enrolled in a four-year degree-granting institution; and,
  • Have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA in the coursework required for the student's major.
