The National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant, is designed to encourage high-school students to take more challenging courses by being in a rigorous program of study. This (Smart) Grant is awarded to students who are majoring in physical, life or computer science, engineering, mathematics, technology, or a critical foreign language. Awards for a National SMART Grant are up to $4,000 per academic year.
To receive this grant, you must:
- Be a U.S. Citizen;
- Be a Federal Pell Grant Recipient;
- Be enrolled full-time in a degree program;
- Be enrolled in a four-year degree-granting institution; and,
- Have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA in the coursework required for the student's major.
