Welcome Current and Former Foster Youth!

Citrus College participates in the Foster Youth Success Initiative and assists foster youth by connecting the students with support services and financial aid needed to achieve their academic goals. There are many programs on campus available to assist foster youth and former foster youth.

If you are a current or former foster youth and would like more information about Citrus College and financial aid, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (626) 914-8592 or email us at financialaid@citruscollege.edu.

Foster youth deserve the opportunity to receive a college education and we are committed to helping you receive one. Many students do not receive help because they do not ask or do not know who to ask. Feel free to request information or drop by the Citrus College Financial Aid office for personal assistance.

Foster Youth Success Initiative (FYSI) Background

The California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCO) has recognized that there is a significant deficit regarding youth from foster care attending higher education. Acknowledging this need, they are sponsoring a concerted effort called the Foster Youth Success Initiative (FYSI) to bring issues affecting these youth to the forefront and to improve the ability of these youth to access postsecondary education and benefit from the support services that are available but are often unknown to them.

The goals of this initiative are to improve:
· Access to student services and resources
· Access to academic support
· Retention
· Academic performance
· Completion of units
· Completion of programs and degree
· Transfer rates to baccalaureate

To meet these goals, Citrus College has created a network for our emancipated foster youth that includes many of our on-campus support services.
