The This course covers the history of western art from the 14th century through the 18th century. Some of the course content is concerned with the fundamentals of the appreciation of art as well as its history. Emphasis will be on Italian art, and particular attention will be given to the artists we will see in Italy. It will be possible to see almost all the works we will be studying over this time period.
MUSIC 114 - Music Appreciation - 3 units (Transfers to CSU, UC)

This course is an introduction to music from the Renaissance through the twentieth century. Units on opera, keyboard music, symphonic, ballet, chamber, and jazz will be covered. It will include a survey of musical styles, a study of musical forms, and a brief introduction to the important composers of each time period. We will also discover how to listen to music as well as how to understand the language of music on the page. Particular attention will be paid to Austrian and Italian composers who have lived and worked in the areas where we will be studying.
There will be three Saturday’s of instruction prior to departure: June 7, June 21, and June 28. Non-credit options are available. Group orientation is June 7 at 4:00 p.m.
