RE: Reaffirmation of Accreditation
Proud! Ecstatic! Thrilled! Elated! These are just some of the adjectives to describe my reaction when reading "that" letter today from the Accrediting Commission.
It is with great pride and honor that I share with you the recent news from the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges, Western Association of Schools and Colleges. At its meeting of January 6-8, 2010, the Commission reviewed Citrus College's institutional Self Study Report and the report of the Fall 2009 site visit team.
The Commission took action to
reaffirm the accreditation of Citrus College!
The Commission’s action validates our effectiveness in meeting our institutional mission through our highly qualified faculty and staff, and our stellar academic programs and student support services. Our reaffirmation evidences the strong leadership and guidance which our Governing Board has consistently provided to the college.
The college received commendations for its inclusive governance structure, its ability to obtain external funding, its strong sense of community, and for the attractiveness of the campus and its facilities. The Commission noted recommendations in the areas of: data collection, SLOs, program review in student support services, Human Resources policies, planning, and presentation of the published college budget. The college is required to provide a follow-up report to the Commission in October 2011 on three of these recommendations and a mid-term report in October 2012.
I commend our accreditation co-chairs, Dr. Jeanne Hamilton and Ms. Roberta Eisel, for their outstanding leadership and dedication to the accreditation self study process. As well, I thank the many, many Citrus College faculty and staff who participated in the college’s self study and site visit. I am also extremely indebted to those members of our college community who worked so diligently to advance the college in meeting the four standards for accreditation. Our collective efforts truly contributed to this wonderful outcome!
I look forward to the opportunity to celebrate this success as a community at our upcoming Flex Day on February 16.
