Dr. Edward C. Ortell is a lifelong advocate of community colleges. He is the senior board member on the Citrus College Board of Trustees, and he has been elected to serve as the Trustee Area #3 representative for consecutive terms for many years.
As a board member, Dr. Ortell has held all board offices, including more than eight terms as board president. He has also served as president of the Citrus College Foundation Board of Directors. Dr. Ortell currently represents Citrus College on the Los Angeles County Committee on School District Organization.
Dr. Ortell's history of advocacy on behalf of community colleges includes lobbying legislators in Sacramento and Washington, D.C. In addition, he has testified before the California State Legislature and worked with lawmakers to craft legislation favorable to community colleges. Dr. Ortell has also served on numerous boards and associations, including the California Community College Trustees State Board of Directors; the Community College League of California Advisory Committee on Legislation; the SB 6 Master Plan for Education Task Force; the Community College Association Board of Directors and the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association.
A professor emeritus of business and computer technology at Pasadena City College, Dr. Ortell has authored two college textbooks on mathematics and received several National Science Foundation grants. He holds a bachelor of science degree from the University of Dubuque, Iowa; a master of science degree from the State University of New York; a master of arts degree from California State University, Los Angeles; and a doctorate from U.S. International University, San Diego. His honors include CBS anchor Ralph Story Community Service Award, the Community College League of California Longevity Service Award; CCA/CTA We Honor Ours (W.H.O.) Award; the City of Duarte Outstanding Civic Service Award and several commendations from state and federal legislators.
