Dr. Barbara R. Dickerson was elected as a member of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees in 2013, representing Azusa and portions of Duarte. She serves as the trustee representative on the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association (LACSTA), and, currently, as the president of LACSTA, as well.
Dr. Dickerson served eight years on the Azusa Unified School District Board of Education. She is actively engaged in the City of Azusa through her work in the Azusa Woman's Club, Soroptimist International of Azusa-Glendora, Neighborhood Homework House, Azusa Unified District Wellness Committee. Her work in her community has earned her honors as the District 24 Woman of the Year, Citizen of the year by the Azusa Chamber and the YWCA Woman of Achievement award.
Dr. Dickerson's professional career began and matured in Arizona. She taught in the K-12 community; first as a classroom teacher and later as a resource provider. Dr. Dickerson has a broad experience in higher education. She has served in key leadership roles in both a private university as well as the largest public university in the nation. Dr. Dickerson's experience in Academic Affairs encompassed the Honors College, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Education. Her leadership roles in Student Affairs included Counseling and Consultation, Student Media and the Student Union. Each of these experiences provided insights which allowed her to design strategies that influenced student's access and achievement.
After earning her bachelor's degree at Grand Canyon University, Dr. Dickerson earned her doctorate at Arizona State University in Curriculum and Instruction.
