Citrus College RISE Team to Host Science and Technology Day Feb. 8
Proceeds Will Benefit Student Research and Outreach Efforts
GLENDORA, Calif. – The Citrus College Research in Science and Engineering (RISE) team will hold a Science and Technology Day event to support the research and future outreach efforts of its 22 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) students beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Campus Center.
The fundraiser encompasses a day full of creative thinking, fun activities and bonding with college physics students, all while learning about the science of rocketry, catapults and miniature go-karts.
Participants will learn about building and launching model rockets; building catapults and launching projectiles; and building and racing mouse trap cars. There will also be a raffle and egg drop competition.
Registration options are as follows:
· Half-day, including breakfast and lunch, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ($60)
· Half-day with no lunch from 8:30 a.m. to noon or 12:45 to 4:15 p.m. ($50)
· Full day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. ($50)
The remaining in-person registration dates are from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 22; Wednesday, Jan. 29; and Thursday, Jan. 30.
Checks must be made out to the Citrus College Foundation and mailed or delivered to Lucia Riderer, Citrus College, Office PS 104, 1000 W. Foothill Blvd., Glendora, CA 91741.
All proceeds from the event will be used to fund the research and outreach efforts of the three teams that make up RISE – the Rocket Owls, Space Owls and CAPE Owls. Each team works independently on a STEM-based research project and competes in intercollegiate national and international competitions, as well as conducts monthly outreach activities to local K-8 schools.
