Citrus College Scores Two Statewide Marketing Awards
Glendora, Calif. (July 8, 2020) – Two projects created and managed by the Citrus College Communications and External Relations Office recently received first and third place honors from the Community College Public Relations Organization (CCPRO), a statewide professional development and service organization that promotes excellence in community college marketing and outreach.
The college's official newsletter, Citrus View, was awarded first place in the organization's "Newsletter" category. To view the latest editions of Citrus View, visit www.citruscollege.edu/pio/view. Redesigned light pole banners won third place in the "Banner/Outdoor Media" category. The 19 vibrant banners, featuring dynamic photographs and catchy taglines, reflect different academic disciplines and activities.
"Winning awards in two distinct categories underscores the diverse skillset of our communications and external relations team," said Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College. "I am proud of their innovative spirit and efforts to promote the college's accomplishments and academic offerings, whether through traditional, digital or outdoor media."
For their 2020 competition, which was hosted virtually due to COVID-19, CCPRO invited California's 115 community colleges to submit entries in 43 different categories. This is the first time that Citrus College submitted its newsletter for awards consideration, with evidence provided to CCPRO about how the publication helps the college community stay connected and informed. Similarly, the college described the process of creating its multi-faceted light pole project, and how each banner was designed to beautify the campus and foster a sense of college pride.
Melissa Utsuki, executive director of communications and external relations, believes Citrus College performed well in the competition due to fact that her staff exclusively produces original content.
"Being recognized for these two projects is a huge affirmation of our team's approach and philosophy toward work," said Ms. Utsuki. "We produce everything in-house, using original writing and design, to ensure fresh, stunning and impactful products."
In addition to receiving these CCPRO awards, Citrus College was recently recognized by the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations for having the second-best Instagram account in the entire United States.
"This is a well-deserved honor for the college's accomplished team of communicators," said Dr. Patricia A. Rasmussen, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees. "Their creative efforts successfully position Citrus College at the forefront of higher education marketing and successfully capture the spirit of this wonderful institution."
