Placement

As of November 1, 2018, placement into English and math is based upon self-reported high school GPA and the last math course completed in high school with a "C-" or better. All applicants receive an email with their placement into English and math.

Students who took English and/or math at another college need to submit their official college transcript(s) to the admissions and records office for proper placement.

Students with questions about their placement should meet with a counselor.

Students without high school data on the application receive the following placements, which provide access to transfer-level English and math:

English

• English 101E: Reading and Composition Enhanced (5 units)

Math

Students may select one of the following mathematics courses (open to all students):

• Math 160: Mathematics for Everyday Living
• Math 165 + 065: Introductory Statistics with corequisite support
• Math 168: Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I
• Math 175 + 075: Pre-Calculus with corequisite support
• Math 180 + 080: Calculus for Business and Social Sciences with corequisite support

Students are strongly recommended to schedule an appointment/drop-in with a counselor to select their appropriate mathematics course for their major.

International (F-1 visa) students need to contact the International Student Center (ISC).

Non-international ESL students need to contact the Counseling and Advisement Center. Non-international ESL students are those students whose primary language at home is other than English and who require additional English language support to develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.

International (F-1 visa) and non-international ESL students will be placed into math based upon self-reported high school GPA and the last math course completed in high school with a "C-" or better. Students without high school data on the application receive the following placements, which provide access to transfer-level math:

• Math 160: Mathematics for Everyday Living
• Math 165 + 065: Introductory Statistics with corequisite support Math 168: Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I
• Math 175 + 075: Pre-Calculus with corequisite support
• Math 180 + 080: Calculus for Business and Social Sciences with corequisite support

Students are strongly recommended to schedule an appointment/drop-in with a counselor to select their appropriate mathematics course for their major.

Students are placed into ENGL 101E (5 units) or ENGL 101 (4 units). ENGL 101E (5 units) will provide additional support for writing, reading and grammar, as of fall 2019.

Math 030 Elementary Algebra, Math 031 Plane Geometry, and Math 050/150 Intermediate Algebra with corequisite are longer offered, as of fall 2019.

Students who received a previous placement will be provided with a new placement in accordance with their self-reported high school GPA and the last math course completed in high school with a "C-" or better.

Students who received a placement and attempted an English 101 but failed to complete or pass the course do have the option of self-placing into and attempting English 101E. However, students who received a placement in and attempted an English 101E but failed to complete or pass the course, do not have the option of self-placing into and attempting English 101. They must retake English 101E.

Students who have already completed a college level math course will be eligible to take the next math course in their sequence.

Students who have completed a basic skills math course and would have not been eligible for transfer level math will now be eligible for the following transfer level math courses:

• Math 160: Mathematics for Everyday Living
• Math 165 + 065: Introductory Statistics with corequisite support
• Math 168: Mathematics for Elementary Teachers I
• Math 175 + 075: Pre-Calculus with corequisite support
• Math 180 + 080: Calculus for Business and Social Sciences with corequisite support

Academic divisions affected by AB 705 work internally on necessary modifications of existing courses and programs and submit them to the Citrus College Curriculum Committee for review and approval.
