Kinesiology, barbering among several new program offerings

With the addition of several new and exciting academic programs, Citrus College is continuing its longstanding commitment to meeting the needs of its diverse student body.

During the fall 2025 semester, the college expanded its kinesiology pathway with a total of four new associate degree and skill award options. Additionally, the college began offering an associate degree and certificate in barbering. As a result, Citrus College is one of the few community colleges in the state to offer a barbering program.

Other new programming included an updated communication studies degree and a drone operations certificate, the latter of which became effective in summer 2025.

After incorporating these recent changes, the college boosted its total offerings to 78 associate degrees and 121 certificates and skill awards.

"On behalf of the campus community, I would like to thank our dedicated faculty and staff for working together behind the scenes to expand our program offerings and give our students more academic opportunities," said Superintendent/President Schulz.

In kinesiology, the new options include an Associate of Science degree in Kinesiology – Human Performance; an Associate of Science degree in Kinesiology – Sport Management; a Skill Award in Sports Information; and a Skill Award in Sports Management.

The addition of the new degrees and skill awards will be especially beneficial to current and future students, according to Traci Rodriguez, kinesiology instructor.

Rodriguez said the idea of creating these programs came after they saw a growing need for students to be properly trained in these fields.

Students who earn skill awards in sports information or sports management, for example, can show transfer institutions and future employers that they have a foundation of knowledge in those areas. These skills also provide students with an opportunity to work in varying capacities while pursuing their educational and career goals.

"Mapping these programs will allow students the ability to take introductory kinesiology courses early in their college education that will introduce them to different professions and focuses," Rodriguez said.

Registration for winter and spring begins on Nov. 3. To learn more about the college's current program offerings, visit catalog.citruscollege.edu.
