Faculty Recruitment, Fall 2027 in Florence
Citrus College and the Southern California Foothills Consortium (SCFC) Study Abroad program invite faculty to join our fall semester in Florence, Italy. The program is open to faculty who will be tenured by the fall 2027 semester.
Coordinated in conjunction with the American Institute for Foreign Studies (AIFS), the Florence program will begin on September 3 and end on November 27, 2027 (subject to change pending board of trustees approval).
REQUIREMENTS AND COURSE PREFERENCES
-
Program promotion: Faculty are expected to actively recruit students through class visits, information sessions and tabling at campus events (e.g., Club Rush and college fairs); creative ideas and strategies for promoting the program are encouraged and valued in the application.
-
Four courses with no prerequisites (one course with a prerequisite may be acceptable)
-
General education (Cal-GETC) courses are preferred
-
No additional lab hours, as lab facilities are not available abroad
-
Student check-ins: Faculty are expected to contact and briefly interview students who have paid their program deposit to assess preparedness, answer questions, and identify any potential concerns that may require follow-up.
FACULTY VISIBILITY, ENGAGEMENT, PROMOTION
Faculty photos will be used in program promotions, and faculty are expected to appear
on camera in recorded Zoom sessions. Faculty play a central role by visiting other
classes to share information and promote the program across campus.
FACULTY SUPPORT
-
Round-trip flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Florence (FLR) on the scheduled group flight. Alternatively, faculty may wish to make their own flight arrangements. -
Accommodation in a centrally located, self-catered one-bedroom apartment, utilities included. Upgrades to larger apartments available for an additional fee. Faculty may identify and book their own housing, within an agreed budget and be reimbursed by AIFS, if preferred.
-
Full participation on all activities and excursions scheduled on the itinerary, on the same basis as the students, including group meals, transfers, entrances, sightseeing tours, etc.
-
AIFS will provide the Southern California Foothills Consortium faculty members with an official immigration invitation letter as required by Italian law for all U.S. faculty visiting for short term programs.
