LGBTQ+ Ally Training

The Citrus College LGBTQ+ Ally Training program is a campus-wide program committed to making Citrus College a safe, welcoming, and more inclusive environment for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ+) community. The college LGBTQ+ ally program provides an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to learn about LGBTQ+ vocabulary, terms, intersectionality within the community, systematic and institutional discrimination, how to ally for the LGBTQ+ community, and campus, local and national resources.

Through a mixture of activities, videos, and discussions, participants will become more aware of the challenges that LGBTQ+ individuals face daily and how to be supportive and influential allies. After completing the training, participants will gain the tools necessary to be an ally for the LGBTQ+ community. They will have the option to sign a petition alleging their commitment to continue their work as an LGBTQ+ Ally. Participants will also receive a Citrus College LGBTQ+ Ally Training decal that can be displayed for the campus community to recognize you as an ally and will be added to a list that acknowledges other people on campus who have taken the pledge.

Mission+-

The purpose of Citrus College LGBTQ+ Ally Training is to identify, inform and educate allies about the LGBTQ+ community. The goal is to improve the current LGBTQ+ campus climate by engaging in dialogue that explores intersectionality, systemic and institutional discrimination, and the importance of being an ally. This program aims to foster and support LGBTQ+ students, faculty and staff on campus and in the community regardless of race, ethnicity, gender expression, gender identity, sex assigned at birth, sexual orientation, legal status, age, and/ or ability.

To create welcoming brave spaces at Citrus College through increasing allyship and by providing frequent LGBTQ+ ally trainings that promote the continuous improvement of the campus climate.

API Equality LA: Asian and Pacific Islander for LGBTQ Equality is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to fighting for social justice and racial equality for all LGBTQ+ individuals.

Center for Black Equity: The Center for Black Equity is the national leader in connecting members of the Black LGBTQ+ community with information and resources to educate, engage and empower their fight for equity and access.

Human Rights Campaign: The largest national LGBTQ+ civil rights organization. Check out their website for annual youth reports, mental health resources, law and policy affecting the LGBTQ+ community and more.

Immigration Equality: The largest organization fighting for equality under U.S. immigration law for LGBTQ+ individuals and the HIV-positive population. Check out their website for hotline numbers and other legal help resources.

LGBTQ-Inclusive Classrooms: The University of Arizona put together this guide for educators with tips and tricks on how to create a more inclusive and LGBTQ friendly classroom.

LGBTQ National Help Center: Provides peer-support, community connections and resource information to the LGBTQ community. You can call their general hotline at (888) 843-4564.

National Suicide Hotline: This lifeline provides 24/7 free and confidential emotional support to people in suicide crisis or emotional distress.

Pomona Pride Center San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ Center: The Pomona Pride Center hosts various events throughout the year, including book clubs, movie nights, peer support groups, yoga, and game nights. San Gabriel Valley LGBTQ Center in Arcadia hosts several different events throughout the year. In addition to events, the center also holds peer support groups for non-binary folks, LGBTQ+ youth, and for those experiencing grief and/or loss. (626) 578-5772. Located at Prince Eric Hall (behind Arcadia Congregational Church) at 2607 S. Santa Anita Ave. in Arcadia, CA 91006. (Physical location is only open during programming hours.)

Trans Lifeline: Provides a 24/7 peer support hotline and grants for trans people in need. You can call their hotline at (877) 565-8860.

Trevor Project: Provides access to counselors to youth by phone call (866) 488-7386, online chat, or text (text START to 678678). They also have an online community for LGBTQ+ youth, ages 13-24.
