Dr. Contreras assumes the seat of Dr. Barbara R. Dickerson, who resigned on Sept. 14, 2020. His term expires on Dec. 9, 2022.
"I am pleased to welcome Dr. Contreras to the college community and congratulate him on his appointment," said Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College. Dr. Contreras attended Citrus College before earning a bachelor's degree in business administration, with an emphasis in finance, from the University of Southern California (USC); a master's degree in cross-cultural education from National University; and a doctorate in education, specializing in teacher education in multicultural societies, from USC.
"As a former Citrus College student, this institution holds a special place in my heart," Dr. Contreras said. "I am honored to receive this appointment, and I look forward to continuing to devote my energy to furthering the educational opportunities for my community."
He has worked for the Azusa Unified School District (AUSD) for more than 30 years, including six years as an administrator. During his tenure at AUSD, Dr. Contreras has been named teacher of the year twice and received the "Teacher Honor Excellence" award three times. In 2017, he was named secondary co-administrator of the year by the Association of California School Administrators.
"On behalf of the board of trustees, I congratulate Dr. Contreras and welcome him to our governing body," said Dr. Patricia A.
