Citrus College Student Wins Walgreens Pharmacy Technician Scholarship
Glendora, Calif. (Aug. 3, 2020) – Citrus College student Brooke Arelano was recently awarded the Walgreens Pharmacy Technician Certification Scholarship, which recognizes Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) members who are enrolled in allied health or pharmacy technician programs and intend to take the pharmacy technician certification exam.
"Brooke is hardworking and very well organized, and she is great at promoting friendship and fellowship in our chapter," said Brian Waddington, honors transfer coordinator and PTK advisor at Citrus College. "She is a very deserving recipient of the Walgreens scholarship."
PTK is the world's largest and most prestigious honor society for two-year college students, with a mission of recognizing the academic achievement of community college students and providing opportunities for them to grow as scholars and leaders. Ms. Arelano was recently elected president of the Beta Nu Eta chapter of PTK, making her an exceptional choice for the Walgreens scholarship.
"I would like to thank my advisors from PTK for giving me such great opportunities and for allowing me to grow as a person," said Ms. Arelano. "When I was experiencing a difficult time for a few semesters, my advisors, my friends and the college provided me with a fantastic and amazing support system. Because of this, my goals have been easier to attain."
The scholarship Ms. Arelano received will cover the cost of the pharmacy technician certification exam fee, allowing her to focus on her studies. Ms. Arelano is one of 35 students who received the award.
"Kudos to Brooke Arelano on receiving this award," said Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College. "Her incredible work ethic and ambition represent the culture of academic excellence at Citrus College. We wish her much success in her future endeavors."
Ms. Arelano is a pre-allied health and psychology major in her third year at Citrus College. Her ultimate goal is to become a physician's assistant.
