Citrus College governing board installs two new trustees, one returning trustee
Glendora, Calif. (Jan. 21, 2025) – Two newly elected trustees and one reelected trustee were recently sworn in during an annual organizational meeting of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees.
On Dec. 17, 2024, Steven Bluitt Flowers and Randa B. Wahbe, Ed.D., took their oaths of office, filling the seats of recently retired trustees Patricia A. Rasmussen, Ed.D., and Mary Ann Lutz. Laura J. Bollinger, who was first elected in 2020, retained her seat after being reelected to serve a second term.
"The Citrus College community is pleased to welcome Steven Bluitt Flowers and Dr. Randa Wahbe to the board of trustees. As an alumnus and decorated veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Bluitt Flowers brings a unique perspective that will enrich our campus. Likewise, Dr. Wahbe has an expertise in community college education that will be a tremendous asset in the years ahead," said Dr. Greg Schulz, superintendent/president of Citrus College. "We are also happy to congratulate Trustee Bollinger on her reelection. Her experience and knowledge have been invaluable to our board, and we look forward to her continued service."
Bluitt Flowers ran unopposed in November's election and assumes the position previously held by Dr. Rasmussen. He now serves as the representative for trustee area 4, which encompasses Glendora and portions of San Dimas.
A lifelong advocate for public service, Bluitt Flowers has held a variety of leadership roles at Citrus College and within the surrounding communities. As a student, he served as both a senator and a legislative liaison on the Associated Students of Citrus College Executive Board. More recently, Bluitt Flowers was president of the Citrus Alumni and Friends Association and a member of the Citrus College Foundation Board of Directors. Additional community involvement has included time spent on the Glendora Public Library Board of Trustees and serving as president of the Glendora Historical Society, as well as serving on the board of directors for both the Glendora Preservation Foundation and the Glendora Community Coordinating Council.
"Being elected to the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees is a tremendous privilege, and I'm eager to contribute my skills, experience and passion to benefit our students," Bluitt Flowers said. "As a proud alumnus, I'm deeply invested in the college's continued success. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow trustees, college leadership, faculty and staff to drive progress, foster excellence and advance the institutional mission."
Dr. Wahbe was also elected to the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees in November and assumes the position previously held by Lutz. She now represents trustee area 5, which serves the communities of Monrovia, Bradbury and portions of Duarte.
A San Gabriel Valley native, Dr. Wahbe has more than 25 years of experience in community college education. Initially beginning her career as an adjunct English instructor at Citrus College, Fullerton College, Glendale Community College and Pasadena City College, Dr. Wahbe later secured a full-time faculty position and received tenure at Cypress College in the North Orange County Community College District. In this role, she has had the opportunity to lead educational planning at the local, state and national levels.
"Serving on the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees is an honor, and I am deeply humbled by the trust placed in me," Dr. Wahbe said. "I am committed to working closely with the faculty, staff and community to ensure that Citrus College remains a vibrant, inclusive and student-centered environment where all students are empowered to succeed."
In addition to the election of two new board members, Bollinger ran unopposed and was reelected. She will continue serving Claremont and portions of Pomona and La Verne as the representative for trustee area 2.
A Claremont resident for over 30 years, Bollinger has participated in numerous community organizations and has held many leadership roles on several occasions. Her local involvement includes time spent with the Claremont Community Foundation; Claremont Heritage; Friends of the Claremont Library; and two organizations that serve the Claremont Colleges. In the broader Los Angeles community, Bollinger has been an association member of the Fairplex team for over 20 years.
"As a proud Citrus College alumna and longtime community advocate, I'm excited to continue working on behalf of Citrus College students, faculty and staff," Bollinger said. "It is an honor to have been reelected, and my commitment to accessible, affordable education remains unwavering. I pledge to work tirelessly to ensure that our college continues to be a place where students can explore their passions, develop their talents and achieve their dreams."
At the organizational meeting, trustees were also elected to the following positions for the term spanning Dec. 17, 2024, to Dec. 15, 2025: Cheryl Alexander, Ed.D., will serve as board president; Laura J. Bollinger will serve as board vice president; and Anthony Contreras, Ed.D., will serve as board clerk/secretary.
