World-famous artwork from Weisman Foundation featured at Citrus College
Glendora, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2024) – Pieces from one of the most important art collections in the world are currently on display in the Citrus College Art Gallery.
Paintings and sculptures by artists such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Keith Haring, among others, are featured in "POP Art: Selections from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation," an exhibit being held at Citrus College from Feb. 20 through April 30, 2024.
"Pop art was an important and culturally significant movement in art history, and this exhibition illustrates how it has influenced artistic production in our present cultural moment," said Mike Hillman, the Citrus College visual arts instructor responsible for bringing the exhibit to campus. "By visiting the college's Art Gallery, guests will have the opportunity to view portions of one of the premier collections of contemporary, modern and pop art in existence."
Although "POP Art: Selections from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation" is open to the public, advance reservations are required. Visitors are asked to schedule viewing appointments via the Citrus College Visual and Performing Arts website,
www.citrusarts.org/exhibitions. Admission is free of charge, but donations to the Citrus College Visual Arts program are welcome.
"Exhibits such as these provide faculty, staff, students and community members with the opportunity to view important works they may not have otherwise seen," Hillman said. "Our hope is that their visits inspire them to create, dream and educate others."
"POP Art: Selections from the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation" is curated and directed by Billie Milam Weisman, director of the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation. Dedicated to continuing the legacy and vision of entrepreneur and philanthropist Frederick R. Weisman, the Foundation makes his extensive collection of priceless art available through loans to museums, galleries and public-art venues worldwide.
"Citrus College is incredibly grateful to Mrs. Weisman and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation for bringing these masterpieces to our campus," said Dr. Greg Schulz, superintendent/president of Citrus College. "This exhibit will provide our students with the opportunity to be inspired by the works of world-famous artists before walking into our Citrus College studio art classes and creating their own pieces. The benefits of unique learning experiences such as these are immeasurable."
Citrus College employees were the first to view the exhibit during a soft opening on Feb. 20. An invitation-only reception for college donors, friends and supporters will take place on Sunday, Feb. 25.
"Art is a universal language," Hillman said. "By displaying this important collection, Citrus College is certain to encourage thought, contemplation and questioning."
