What is Articulation?

Articulation is the process that links two educational institutions to help students make a smooth transition from the community college to the college or university without experiencing a delay or duplication of coursework.

Courses at the community college are identified as equivalent to courses at the university. This allows students to fulfill a university requirement by taking an identified equivalent course (articulated course) at the community college. This equivalency, or articulation, can be done course-to-course, for major requirements and/or for general education requirements. In some cases, courses are only articulated (identified) as elective courses. This means that though the units will transfer, the course does not fulfill any of the above listed requirements. Citrus College has articulation agreements with a variety of institutions of higher education. They include University of California (UC) campuses, California State University (CSU) campuses, private and out-of-state colleges and universities.

What does the Associate Degree for Transfer program do for me?+-

Creates an Associate Degree for Transfer that guarantees your admission with junior standing to the California State University system.
Defines this associate degree as having 60 transferrable units that include 18 units in a major or area of emphasis and an approved general education curriculum (either IGETC or GE Breadth).
Provides you with priority admission to your local California State University campus and to a program or major that is similar to the major or area of emphasis you studied at your community college.
Prohibits the California State University from requiring you to repeat courses that are similar to those completed at your community college as part of your associate degree for transfer.
Prohibits the California State University from requiring you to take more than 60 units to complete a 120-unit baccalaureate degree.
Reduces the need to take unnecessary courses, thereby shortening your time to degree completion and reducing your costs at the community college and California State University.
Eliminates confusion caused by different and shifting major preparation requirements that can vary by each California State University campus.
Even if you do not complete or have to delay finishing your bachelor's degree, you'll still have an associate degree and no one can take that from you. It can significantly increase your earning potential and provide you with the skills employers are looking for in this difficult economy.

Definition of AA-T/AS-T Local Area for Admission Purposes+-

CSU campuses which are designated as impacted at the upper division transfer level or which have impacted programs may consider the local admissions area as one of the factors in admission.

A listing of CSU campuses and programs designated as impacted and a listing of CSU campuses and their defined local admissions area are available online.

Students who earn the AA-T or AS-T degree at a California community college will be granted priority admission consideration if they apply to a local California State University that has designated the community college granting the degree as within its local admission area.

Articulation
The process of developing a formal, written agreement that identifies courses or sequence of courses at one college/university that are comparable to, or acceptable in lieu of, specific course requirements at another college/university.
Articulation System Stimulating Inter-institutional Student Transfer
ASSIST is the official statewide repository of statewide articulation information for California community colleges, California State University, and University of California. The ASSIST website displays transfer course agreements, baccalaureate lists, general education lists, and other articulation agreements.
Baccalaureate List (BACC)
All courses that each California community college has approved to be transferable for general lower-division credit to California State University campuses.
California Articulation Number System (CAN)
A common course number identification system for many lower-division, transferable courses that identifies courses with the same CAN number as comparable.
California Private/Post Secondary Institutions
Educational institutions and agencies which offer occupational instruction beyond high school.
General Education/Breadth Requirement (GEB)
Course requirements that all students are expected to meet, regardless of major.
Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)
A competency certification that can be used by California cCommunity college transfer students to fulfill lower-division general education requirements for transfer to a California State University or University of California.
Lower-Division Major Preparation Agreements
Agreements generated by individual institutions that contain lower-division course preparation for a specific major.
Transferable
A transferable course is a Citrus Community College District course that is accepted at a four-year educational institution for unit credit only.
University of California Transfer Course Agreement (UC TCA)
Identifies courses at a community college that are transferable to the University of California.
University of California (UC)
A four-year post-secondary system that includes 10 campuses.
California State University (CSU)
A four-year post-secondary system that includes 23 campuses.
California Community Colleges (CCC)
A two-year post-secondary system that includes 109 colleges and numerous branch campuses.
