Celebrating student achievement
Several of Citrus College's best and brightest students were recently honored during the 55th annual Achievement Awards ceremony.
More than 100 students celebrated their accomplishments with family and friends, as well as Citrus College faculty and staff, in the Haugh Performing Arts Center on May 31. During the ceremony, the students were honored for success in the areas of academics, athletics and leadership.
"While the Citrus College student body is inspirational as a whole, the accomplishments of this distinct group of individuals are definitely deserving of recognition," stated the college superintendent/president. "Whether they have maintained an exceptional academic record, excelled on the athletic field or given back to the community, these students have left an indelible mark on the college."
The honors bestowed during the ceremony included the Distinguished Student Awards, which are presented to individuals whose academic performance places them at the top of their classes.
Also presented were the prestigious Keys of Knowledge, which constitute the highest academic honors granted by the college. This year's recipients were Alexander Manuel Arauz, Joshua Estrella Felix, Duo Gao, Beaux Fernando Guajardo, Kevin Charles Murray, Providence Janelle Riggs, Julianne Naomi Elizabeth Rodriguez, Han Sheng, Juan Alberto Soto and Watts Lincoln Waddington.
Students Hannah Chavarria and Ashley Guzman received the 2018 Service Leader of the Year honors.
The 2018 Male Athlete of the Year honor was presented to men's basketball player Jeremy Smith, while women's basketball player Marisol Chavez-Delgado and women's water polo and swimming team member Hunter Olivier were named the 2018 Female Athletes of the Year.
