Student services campaign celebrates deserving students

Elisa Salas has made the most of her time as a Citrus College student. After participating in the Early College program and being part of Citrus College Promise, she joined the women's soccer team and earned an associate degree in pre-allied health.

And she's just getting started!

Now pursuing a second associate degree and looking forward to another exciting soccer season, Elisa is a prime example of a successful student. For this reason, she was selected to receive the Student Services Spotlight Award for January 2022.

"By recognizing a deserving student each month, we hope to validate and celebrate our students," explained Dr. Richard F. Rams, vice president of student services. "Our goal is to bring awareness to the diversity of our students, their stories, their successes and the challenges they overcome."

According to Dr. Rams, the process of selecting a student to spotlight each month is collaborative. Any counselor or staff member in the student services division can nominate a student to highlight. Once selected, the honoree receives a personalized certificate signed by the superintendent/president, vice president of student services, program director and/or the employee who made the nomination.

"What I like most about attending Citrus is the employees. Everyone on campus, including the athletics program, has been super patient and really helpful," Elisa said. "I feel more confident academically, and I am so happy my dedication and hard work are paying off."

Since October, seven students have received the Student Services Spotlight Award. Faith Daisy Ray Abuan was recognized in October 2021, Jiancheng Zhao was recognized in November 2021, Denay Neal was recognized in December 2021, Elisa was recognized in January 2022, Carlos Millan was recognized in February 2022, Carmen Cruz was recognized in March 2022 and Nicholas Chacon was recognized in April 2022.
