Food pantries offer meals to those in need
To combat food insecurity, Citrus College uses food pantries to provide the community with the resources they need.
All mobile food pantry events are held in conjunction with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in the Campus Mall from 1-3 p.m. on the first Monday of each month. The mobile food pantry provides students, employees and community members with up to 30 pounds of food. Common items include frozen meat, yogurt, potatoes, pasta, vegetables and bread.
Citrus College has partnered with the food bank since May 2017. More than 100,000 pounds of food have been distributed over the course of the partnership.
When the mobile food pantry isn't on campus, students can visit the food pantry inside the Campus Center for ready-to-eat meals and toiletries.
The goal of the on-campus food pantry is to offer foods that can be easily warmed up between classes. All students are able to visit the food pantry Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. while school is in session.
Citrus College also offers grocery gift cards on a first-come, first-served basis to students in need. In order to qualify, students must have completed the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application prior to applying and have unmet financial need.
