Citrus College student Matthew McCarthy was recently awarded a Botanical Society of America (BSA) PLANTS travel grant. The PLANTS program (Preparing Leaders and Nurturing Tomorrow's Scientists), sponsored by BSA and the National Science Foundation (NSF), funds up to 12 undergraduates to receive mentoring and participate in networking events and career-oriented activities.

The program covers travel, registration, food and accommodation expenses. This year's botany conference, featuring more than 1,000 scientists and students, takes place in Tucson at the end of July.

Most interestingly, Matt is the first community college student to EVER receive this travel scholarship! Congratulations, Matt!
