Two Citrus College student representatives from the Citrus College Clarion and Logos Magazine recently participated in the Journalism Association of Community Colleges SoCal Regional Conference at CSU Northridge, earning several recognitions.
We had five winners from the regional publication contests — based on work published by the Clarion and Logos during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Publication contest winners:
- Multimedia journalism package: Kenna Jenkins, meritorious winner (one of just three), for her presentation on the connections between architecture and wildfire recovery
- Critical review: Sofia Hernandez, honorable mention, for her article on the movie "Sinners" and the importance in its representation in movies
- News photo: Jacqueline Horan, honorable mention, for her photo of a protester on campus
- News story: Henoch Perez, honorable mention, for his article on the college's work to address the use of artificial intelligence in classes
- Profile feature story: Leslie Pinto, honorable mention, for her article on Kevin Morris, the principal at Mount Olive High School
Citrus College student Angela Hernandez also placed fourth in an on-the-spot social media contest.
Congrats to the entire Citrus College Communication program, including journalism instructor Patrick Schmiedt, and all past, present and future students involved with the Clarion and Logos!
