Eight Citrus College student representatives from the Citrus College Clarion and Logos Magazine recently participated in the Journalism Association of Community Colleges State Convention in Long Beach, earning several important forms of recognition.

We had six winners from publication contests, which are awards based on work published by the Clarion and Logos during the 2024 calendar year. Also, the Clarion website was awarded "General Excellence" recognition as one of the best community college student news websites in the state.

Publication contest winners:

  • Blanca Carrasco: Third place, magazine opinion article, for her article "DIY or DIE!"
  • Logos Staff: Third place, magazine cover design, for the fall 2024 magazine cover
  • Alexa Tapia: Fourth place, magazine photo, for her cover photo of the fall 2024 Logos Magazine, featuring nails done by Citrus College cosmetology students
  • Angelina Oliva: Honorable mention, magazine illustration (note: Angelina won two honorable mentions in this category)
  • Rosie Williams: Honorable mention, environmental portrait, for her photo of counselor Anthony Giammalva

The Citrus College delegation also had the chance to compete in on-the-spot JACC contests, with two students placing:

  • Ben Grover: Honorable mention, sports writing
  • Henoch Perez: Honorable mention, news photo

Congrats to the entire Citrus College Communication program, including journalism instructor Patrick Schmiedt, Logos adviser Michael Saakyan, and all students involved with the Clarion and Logos!
