The Citrus College Beta Nu Eta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honors society recently invited guest speaker James Menefield to campus as part of its research project titled "The Resilience Chronicles."
"The Resilience Chronicles" amplifies the voices of the voiceless — it explores how the power of representation reframes the authenticity of incarcerated individuals' identities by legitimizing their marginalized stories. Featuring underrepresented and largely unknown individuals from the California Institution for Men (CIM) and the California Institution for Women (CIW), the project received permission to broadcast their stories and shine a light on their suffering, healing and personal transformation.
During his visit on Nov. 12, Menefield shared his unique story of abuse, anger, recovery and resilience with a crowd of Citrus College students.
To read the stories and poems of incarcerated individuals from CIM and CIW, visit the Citrus PTK Beta Nu Eta website. The Beta Nu Eta chapter encourages readers to withhold judgment and, instead, seek understanding, remembering that we are all people with stories.
