An orthodontic assistant is a dental professional who works closely with orthodontists to support diagnosing, treating, and caring for patients undergoing orthodontic procedures, such as braces or aligners. Their responsibilities include preparing patients for procedures, taking dental impressions, sterilizing instruments, and providing post-treatment instructions.
The Citrus College Orthodontic Assistant Permit course (DENT 300) includes 24 hours of lecture, 28 hours of laboratory instruction, and 32 hours of clinical experience.
The Dental Board of California approved the Citrus College Orthodontic Assistant Permit course. This approval means that students who complete the program are eligible to sit for the
California Orthodontic Assistant (OA) Permit examination. Obtaining an OA Permit allows one to perform more advanced duties, such as placing and removing orthodontic appliances under supervision, thus enhancing skills, increasing job opportunities, and potentially earning a higher salary.
