Spring 2027 in Seville Spain

Pending Citrus College Board of Trustees approval, students will have the opportunity to spend 12 weeks studying in Seville, the vibrant capital of Andalucía, Spain, during spring 2027 while earning CSU/UC-transferable California Community College credit.

Students will experience Semana Santa and Feria de Abril, two of Spain's most celebrated cultural traditions, while discovering Seville's distinctive blend of Spanish and Moorish history, architecture and cuisine. Course offerings include Spanish language, business, accounting, film and communication, with the option to complete an online course while abroad.

The program also features a two-day excursion to Granada and Córdoba, including visits to the Alhambra and Mezquita, as well as an optional three-day excursion to Morocco with stops in Tetouan, Tangier, Chefchaouen and Asilah. Multiple three-day weekends and a spring break provide additional opportunities for students to explore Seville, travel throughout Spain and experience destinations across Europe.

SEVILLE PROGRAM FEE
Program fee ranges from $9,495 to $10,895, depending on final enrollment (20 to 45+ students).

ESSENTIAL DETAILS

  • Deposit Deadline: $450 by November 8, 2026 (Deposits are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis).
  • Excludes: The program fee excludes flight, entertainment and most meals. However, homestay students (additional fee) will receive daily breakfast and evening meals five nights a week.
  • Financial Aid: Eligible students may use financial aid grants and loans to help cover program fees.

CLASSES AND FACULTY IN SEVILLE
Students must enroll in a minimum of 12 units. The HUM/SPAN 127 course is required (3 units of the required 12). Students may also select one Citrus College online education course, if needed.

PROFESSOR PHILLIP BOLAND
An award-winning filmmaker and educator, Phillip Boland is a full-time, tenured member of the film faculty at MiraCosta College and serves as chair of the theatre and film department. He also advises the Film Club, the college's largest club and an Outstanding Club Award recipient. Boland earned his M.F.A. from ArtCenter College of Design, and his work has received more than 25 honors at film festivals worldwide, including the Remi Grand Jury Award for Best Feature Screenplay.

PROFESSOR PATRICK BORJA
Since joining Citrus College in 2004, Patrick Borja has taught primarily in the areas of financial accounting, managerial accounting and income taxation, while also contributing to the college's study abroad offerings. He taught a variety of business courses in London during the 2016 and 2024 programs, drawing on both his professional background and enthusiasm for international experiences. Borja is a certified public accountant and earned an M.B.A. and an M.A. in Education from California State University, Los Angeles. Through business and accounting education, he seeks to equip students with essential skills while encouraging the curiosity and adaptability of lifelong learners. His earlier career as a flight attendant helped fuel a passion for travel that has taken him to more than 30 countries.

PROFESSOR LIZBET SANCHEZ
With many years of experience teaching Spanish at Mt. San Antonio College, Dr. Lizbet Sanchez brings to the classroom a deep appreciation for language, culture and global learning. Her passion for travel was sparked by an undergraduate study abroad program in Spain, an experience she describes as transformative. As a Chicana educator, she is especially committed to supporting students as they explore new perspectives, gain a greater understanding of themselves and develop a more expansive view of the world.

LIVING ACCOMMODATIONS
Single rooms within a student residence. Typically, two to three students will share a kitchen/common space and bathroom. Centrally located, within walking distance of the AIFS Center and classrooms. Linens, paid laundry facilities on-site and WiFi are included.

  • For a supplement, students may select to share a twin-bedded room in a homestay family (see Optional Packages tab below)
  • Single rooms are also available for an additional fee (see Optional Packages tab below)

MEALS
Self-catering facilities at student residence, a welcome dinner and a farewell dinner. Students selecting the homestay option will receive daily breakfast and evening meal five nights a week.

INTRODUCTION
An orientation program in Seville consisting of a meeting with experienced AIFS staff, covering topics such as general acclimation to Seville, safety and security issues, cultural differences, travel, money and cultural activities

Local area walking tour covering housing and classroom location and local amenities

GUIDED TOURS
Half-day sightseeing walking tour of Seville with the services of a professional, English-speaking guide

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
A cultural calendar of free and subsidized events to help students make the most of their time in Seville. Events will include walking tours, cooking classes, guided museum visits, sporting events and local seasonal activities.

EXCURSIONS
A two-day, one-night excursion to Granada and Cordoba. Round-trip transportation by private bus, one-nights’ accommodation in multi-bedded rooms in a tourist-class hotel in Granada with breakfast, a guided walking tour and guided tour of the Alhambra in Granada and a guided walking tour including entrance to the Mezquita in Cordoba, with the services of an AIFS representative throughout.

SAFETY AND SUPPORT

  • Team of experienced student services staff to ensure the smooth running of the program, providing information and advice to students, organizing excursions and supervising housing
  • 24-hour on-call service in Seville for the duration of the program
  • Access to the AIFS Student Center with free internet access and printing facilities

OPTIONAL HOMESTAY — $750
Students may choose to share a twin-bedded room in a homestay instead of a shared apartment. Homestays include a daily breakfast and five evening meals a week. A weekly load of laundry and WiFi are included.

OPTIONAL SINGLE ROOM IN A HOMESTAY — $345
Students can request a single occupancy room where available. This is offered on a first-come first-served basis and applies to the main student accommodation in Seville only. Students would be expected to share a twin-bedded room on any overnight excursions.

OPTIONAL EXCURSION TO MOROCCO — $625
An optional three-day, two-night weekend excursion to Morocco, which includes:

  • round-trip private bus transfer from Seville to Algeciras,
  • public ferry crossing,
  • hotel accommodation in multi-bedded rooms in Tetouan, with daily breakfast,
  • most lunches and dinners in Morocco (drinks and snacks for purchase),
  • visits to Tetouan, Tangier, Chef-Chaouen and Asilah,
  • guided tours of the medinas, Plaza Moulay El Mehdi, Plaza Hassan I and the Royal Palace, and
  • visits to the walls, Cape Spartel and the caves of Hercules.

The group is accompanied by an AIFS Tour Manager throughout, with the services of professional, English-speaking guides in Morocco.

A minimum of 20 students is required for this trip to operate. A deposit of $50 is required with application.

OPTIONAL TRANSPORTATION PACKAGE — ESTIMATED COST TO BE CALCULATED

  • Round-trip flights between Los Angeles (LAX) and Seville (SVQ) or Malaga (AGP) in economy/standard class
  • Round-trip transfers in Seville between the airport and the student housing
  • AIFS staff meet-and-greet at the airport to assist on arrival and escort students to their housing
