Steven Bluitt Flowers was elected to the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees in November 2024. As the representative for trustee area 4, he serves the communities of Glendora and portions of San Dimas.
A decorated combat veteran, Mr. Bluitt Flowers has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to public service. His time in the U.S. Air Force earned him several prestigious awards, including the Joint Service Achievement Medal for Meritorious Service, Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal and John L. Levitow Airman Leadership Award. Mr. Bluitt Flowers' military service led to his appointment on the British-American Relations Committee, a joint venture of the UK Parliament, the UK Ministry of Defence and the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as the Veterans Advisory Task Force for California's 48th State Assembly District. He is also a member of the Air Force Sergeants Association, Disabled American Veterans, and Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
A proud alumnus of Citrus College, Mr. Bluitt Flowers first became active with the campus community as a student. He served as a senator and as a legislative liaison on the Associated Students of Citrus College Executive Board. After graduating, Mr. Bluitt Flowers would go on to serve five terms as the president of the Citrus Alumni and Friends Association. In 2021, he was elected to the Citrus College Foundation Board of Directors. In this role, he led successful strategic visioning and successful fundraising initiatives. Notably, his efforts included a $40,000 campaign for continued funding of the Citrus College Veterans Success Center.
Mr. Bluitt Flowers' public service has extended beyond Citrus College. He has served as president of the Glendora Historical Society, board chair and trustee chair of the First Christian Church of Glendora (and the church's Fine Arts Academy), and as a member of the Glendora Public Library Board of Trustees, Glendora Preservation Foundation Board of Directors, and Glendora Community Coordinating Council Board of Directors. Additionally, Mr. Bluitt Flowers has been a student trustee and member of the Charter Oak Unified School District Board of Trustees and a charter representative of Cub Scout Pack 482. His dedication to service has been recognized with several awards, including the Humanitarian Service Award from the Glendora Coordinating Council and the Founders Award from the Glendora Historical Society.
In addition to his associate degree from Citrus College, Mr. Bluitt Flowers earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. His many contributions to the greater good have earned him multiple commendations, including recognition from the U.S. Congress, the state of California, Los Angeles County, the city of Glendora, the British-American Relations Committee, and numerous civic groups and service organizations.
Mr. Bluitt Flowers considers it a tremendous privilege to serve on the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees and looks forward to leveraging his skills, experience and passion to make a positive impact on students.
