Owl softball standout Celine Spathias has been selected as the California Community College Athletic Association Scholar Athlete for softball for the 2017 season.
Candidates for Scholar Athlete must carry a minimum 3.5 GPA and must show outstanding leadership as an athlete, student or in other college and community activities, as well as have participated in two seasons of athletics at a California community college.
A La Verne native, Celine had planned on attending Citrus College to save on costs before eventually transferring to a university. She worked diligently, in both the classroom and on the field, garnering incredible results.
Celine was presented with a 2017 Key of Knowledge award during the college's 54th Annual Academic Achievement Awards ceremony. She also played catcher on the Owls softball team and led the team during the season with a batting average of .449 and seven home runs.
