Congratulations to Hailey Gonzalez, a Citrus College alumna who has found success in the biotechnology industry!
A Rowland Heights native, Hailey initially enrolled at Citrus College with the hope of taking her core classes before transferring and studying veterinary medicine. After working with animals at two different jobs and not enjoying it, Hailey realized she needed to try something new. During a meeting with Citrus College counselor Natalie Desimone, Hailey learned about the then-new biotechnology program and decided to give it a try.
"After my first course in the program, I knew I found the right choice for me," she said.
Over the next few years, Hailey succeeded in the classroom and lab, graduating with an Associate of Science in Biotechnology in 2025.
Soon after, Hailey landed a job as a manufacturing technician II for Grifols, a global leader in plasma-derived and transfusion medicines. Her current duties include ensuring product efficacy through good manufacturing practices, regular auditing of documentation and careful handling of hazardous materials.
"My work contributes to the well-being of immunocompromised individuals, like my niece who was recently diagnosed with leukemia," she said. "Knowing that the product I'm manufacturing gives hope to individuals who struggle with their day-to-day lives is what makes my laborious days easier."
For Hailey, the biotechnology training she received at Citrus College directly contributed to her success in the workplace.
"The coursework translated almost seamlessly for understanding how we use heavy machinery for process, as well as the more technical instruments we utilize regularly," she said.
Current students looking to enter the biotechnology field should continue to hone their documentation skills, Hailey added. They should make it a priority to connect with those in the industry.
"Don't allow fear, doubt or even personal restrictions to stop you from making connections, because those connections could lead to your life-long career," she said.
The entire campus community is so proud of Hailey for everything she has accomplished! We cannot wait to see what she does next!
