Financial Aid and Scholarship Information+-

In order to minimize your reliance on financial aid/loans be sure to budget, plan, fundraise, and apply to as many scholarships as possible.

Review our "Writing a Winning Scholarship Essay" worksheet. Be sure to make an appointment with your study abroad advisor, writing center, or faculty for essay review and assistance. For comprehensive essay tips and tutoring contact information, read Citrus College's Learning Center guide available here.

The Gilman scholarship awards Pell Grant eligible students (required) a maximum of $5,000 per program (usually $2,000-$3,000).
Deadline: first Tuesday of October for winter and spring programs (or you can submit early for summer and fall) and the first Tuesday of March for summer and fall programs (or submit early for winter and spring).

The Fund For Education Abroad (FEA) scholarship provides a large quantity of awards (around $2000) to study abroad students.

Your college's financial aid page will likely have information about internal and external scholarships. Citrus College's internal scholarships open in the spring and close in May.

Participation

Why participate in study abroad? Click here to view a short introduction video.
Students from any accredited college or university are welcome to participate in our study abroad programs. To be eligible, students must have completed at least 12 units, nine of which being CSU/UC transferable, with a cumulative 2.5 GPA. Currently enrolled first-semester college students may also qualify if their campus coordinator approves a progress report. Please note that all applicants must be at least 18-years-old by the program's start date.

The Southern California Foothills Consortium for Study Abroad is a cooperative venture among the community college districts of Antelope Valley College, Barstow Community College, Chaffey College, Citrus College, College of the Canyons, College of the Desert, Crafton Hills College, MiraCosta College, Mt. San Antonio College, Rio Hondo College, San Bernardino Valley College and Victor Valley College in partnership with the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS). This partnership allows students to make normal progress toward their undergraduate degrees while utilizing foreign resources and cross-cultural experiences. Students who attend other community colleges and universities are welcome to apply. Financial aid is available to eligible students.
