Financial Aid

Students may apply for loans during the fall semester for use in the winter.

Check with Citrus College Financial Aid for the final day to apply for loans (usually around April).

Students are eligible for the tuition waiver during the winter intersession.

Scholarship

In order to minimize your reliance on financial aid/loans, be sure to budget, plan, fundraise, and apply to as many scholarships as possible.

Review our "Writing a Winning Scholarship Essay" worksheet. Be certain make an appointment with your study abroad advisor, writing center, or faculty for essay review and assistance.

The Gilman scholarship awards Pell Grant eligible students (required) a maximum of $5,000 per program (usually $2,000-$3,500).
Deadline: first Tuesday of October for winter and spring programs (or you can submit early for summer and fall) and the first Tuesday of March for summer and fall programs (or submit early for winter and spring).

Your college's financial aid web page will likely have information about internal and external scholarships. Citrus College's internal scholarships open in the spring and close in May.

Students must enroll in a minimum of three units. Online courses are not recommended while studying in Paris.

Erin Tate (psychology) completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Pepperdine University. As an undergraduate, she studied abroad in London for one year and credits this experience as one of the most impactful decisions of her life. She began her career teaching high school psychology and English, but moved on to work at various local colleges and universities. Erin has been a psychology instructor at Citrus College for the past 16 years. She enjoys building relationships with her students and looks forward to guiding them through the experience of living and traveling abroad.

PSY 205 Developmental Psychology

Developmental psychology is the scientific study of progressive changes in behavior, cognition, and abilities. Attention is paid to issues related to the roles of nature and nurture in developmental processes.

Nicholas Henson (English) earned his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon with a focus in American literature and his B.A. from U.C. Davis where he studied English literature and history. An educator for 18 years, his work at Citrus College has focused on teaching world literature and composition courses. His first experiences abroad were through an undergraduate studied abroad program in London, which made him a life-long lover of travel.

ENGL 272 Introduction to World Literature: 1600's through Twentieth Century
3 Units (AA/AS; Citrus C2; CSU; IGETC 3B; UC; CSUGE C2); 54 lecture hours; Grade Mode: Standard Letter

English 272 is the study of world literature in translation from the early modern period to the twentieth century. This course emphasizes the development of literary expression and explores literature within the context of the culture and time in which works were written. This course examines the relationship between historical events and literary works and the impact of works on their age and ensuing eras.

• Accommodation in twin bedded rooms within a local homestay including kitchen access and shared living space and bathroom and laundry access, linens, towels and free Wi-Fi. Daily breakfast and three evening meals per week are included. For a supplementary fee of $1000, students may select a half-board (breakfast daily and five dinners per week) option at a student residence.
• Orientation program in Paris consisting of a meeting with AIFS staff, information on safety and security, a local area walking tour and a welcome meal
• A Navigo travelcard for unlimited use on the metro, buses, trams, and regional trains in the central zone of Paris
• Half-day sightseeing tour of Paris by private bus
• A guided "highlights" tour of the Musée du Louvre and an 'Amis du Louvre' pass, granting unlimited entry to the Louve museum for the duration of the program
• Full-day excursion to the Palace of Versailles
• An hour-long sightseeing cruise on the river Seine
• Two day/one night excursion to Normandy and Brittany, including round-trip transportation by private bus, overnight accommodation in multi-bedded ensuite rooms, breakfast in St. Malo, entrance to the Caen Memorial, a half-day tour of the D-Day beaches, a free morning in St. Malo, and entrance to the Mont St. Michel on the return to Paris
• Additional activities such as neighborhood walking tours and museum visits
• A farewell meal
• Access to the AIFS Student Center and the services of AIFS support staff for information, personal advising and 24-hour emergency contact service
• Student medical insurance policy

Students may make their own flight arrangements or an optional transportation package is available, consisting of round-trip airfare between Los Angeles and Paris, and roundtrip transfers overseas between the airport in Paris and student housing for an additional $695. Mandatory additional U.S. government and airline-imposed departure taxes, fees and fuel surcharges of $479 (subject to change) will be billed separately.

The fee per person is $3,935. This fee excludes airfare, optional insurance upgrades, passport or visa fees, meals other than those listed, personal expenses, any Citrus College tuition or administrative fees, textbooks, additional field trips or excursions required by the Citrus college faculty and anything not specified.

Application Steps

1. Contact your study abroad office OR go to the Citrus Colleges Study Abroad website and complete the Interest Form.
   If approved, your study abroad advisor will send a link to the AIFS Student Portal (enrollment page).
   
   
2. Pay the $450 deposit to secure your spot before the October 13 deadline
   
   
3. Pay the remaining balance and attend the mandatory pre-departure orientation (see the dates below)

  All fees paid less than a $150 processing fee will be refunded.

  All fees paid less the $450 deposit and any non-refundable deposits paid by the participant or by AIFS on the participant's behalf will be refunded.
  
  
• Withdrawing after Friday, November 15, 2024
  No refund and the total program fee is due.

Please note: after the final payment deadline the full program fee is due to AIFS even if you have not yet paid and do not participate or plan to participate in the program. Non-refundable financial commitments have been made to secure your spot.

If a participant withdraws once the program has begun, there is no refund. This refund policy applies whether a participant pays AIFS Abroad directly for all, part, or no program fees.
