In this session, we will share the Citrus College results from the Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) conducted in spring 2022. We will discuss the five benchmark areas of student engagement, survey findings and suggested strategies for improvement provided by CCSSE. Participants will have an opportunity to share their effective student engagement practices for inside and outside the classroom.

Get insight on Canvas best practices and tips, including how to create a Bitmoji to use in announcements, message students from the grade boo, use "tokens" to increase flexibility for students and create more equity around deadlines in a sustainable way, use Canva, pload and embed videos, organize modulese, embed open educational resources (OER) seamlessly into Canvas pages, quizzes, and assignments for a more streamlined experience for your students.

Self-reflection is the first step to understanding who we are, how we perceive the world, and how we engage with others. During this session, attendees will independently reflect on their various identities and engage in a discussion about how systems are structured, power and privilege, and how they can be used to foster a culture of DEIA+.

Honors and You: How You Can Participate in the Honors Transfer Program

This presentation will provide an overview of what an honors class is and what makes it different from a traditional class. Additional topics include the benefits students receive from participating in an honors program and how faculty can help identify and recruit honors students. Finally, the presentation will also provide information on how to create an honors class.

Resources and Strategies to Prevent Phantom Student Fraud and Abuse

For the past two years, California Community Colleges have been the target of fraud by individuals pretending to be students ("phantom students"). Attendees will learn the background and context for how sophisticated fraud rings and bot fraud operates within California community colleges. Presenters will review illustrative cases at Citrus College and share strategies attendees can use to combat potential phantom student fraud and abuse. The presentation will also describe the cross disciplinary efforts at Citrus College to reduce fraud to date, share lessons learned from recent system incidents and discuss long term strategies and resources to mitigate attempts of fraud and abuse.

Authentic Assessments for Student Engagement

Tired of the same old quiz-and-discussion cycle? Students might be. Surveys show better engagement with authentic assessments: application of learning to real-world situations. Authentic exercises often involve creativity, require judgement about which information to include, and call for advanced planning as to how it should be used.
In this workshop, we'll review examples of how to deploy authentic assessments via Canvas. You'll be encouraged to share your ideas for authentic assessment and, if you're new to this practice, develop your own.

This intermediate Microsoft Excel training class is meant for staff who have worked with Excel and want to learn more. The workshop will cover SUMIF, COUNTIF, MATCH, INDEX function, as well as functions that manipulate text and dates. Learn how to apply conditional formatting and sort and filter lists. Additionally, an introduction to Pivot Tables will be demonstrated.
