Financial Aid

Awards and loans are available for the spring 2024 semester through the Citrus College Financial Aid office. After applying and receiving a Citrus student ID number, click here to complete the Financial Aid Request Form.

Scholarship

In order to minimize your reliance on financial aid/loans be sure to budget, plan, fundraise, and apply to as many scholarships as possible.

Review our "Writing a Winning Scholarship Essay" worksheet. Be certain make an appointment with your study abroad advisor, writing center, or faculty for essay review and assistance.

AIFS Ambassador Scholarship: five are available only for Southern California Foothill Consortium college students. Click here to view the flyer (the second page features application requirements).

The Gilman scholarship awards Pell Grant eligible students (required) a maximum of $5,000 per program (usually $2,000-$3,500).
Deadline: first Tuesday of October for winter and spring programs (or you can submit early for summer and fall) and the first Tuesday of March for summer and fall programs (or submit early for winter and spring).

Your college's financial aid web page will likely have information about internal and external scholarships. Citrus College's internal scholarships open in the spring and close in May.

Academics and Eligibility Requirements

This program allows you to study in another country while enrolled in Citrus College courses; the courses are UC and/or CSU transferable. The onsite courses are limited to the faculty participating in the program but students may also enroll in Citrus College's online education courses. Click on the brochure button above for complete course information.

Personal

Study abroad is a transformative, life-changing experience that will broaden students understanding of themselves and the world. There are numerous tangible benefits to study abroad alumni including: increased self-confidence, improved GPA, lower unemployment rates, and higher starting salaries.

The AIFS program fee is $8,570 (homestay option) or $10,320 (shared residence option) based on an enrollment of 45 or more participants.

Wednesday, June 5, 2024: $450 enrollment deposit deadline

Friday, July 12, 2024: Entire balance due (financial aid students will pay the majority of fees when they receive their awards/refunds)

Wednesday, July 24, 2024: Mandatory orientation at 6 p.m. in CI 159

Email kwinslow@aifs.com and provide withdrawal intent.

• Withdrawing on or before Wednesday, June 12, 2024
  All fees paid less than a $150 processing fee will be refunded.
  
  
• Withdrawing after Wednesday, June 12, 2024, and on or before Friday, July 12, 2024
  All fees paid less the $450 deposit and any non-refundable deposits paid by the participant or by AIFS on the participant's behalf will be refunded.
  
  
• Withdrawing after Friday, July 12, 2024
  No refund and the total program fee is due.

Please note: after the final payment deadline the full program fee is due to AIFS even if you have not yet paid and do not participate or plan to participate in the program. Non-refundable financial commitments have been made to secure your spot.

If a participant withdraws once the program has begun, there is no refund. This refund policy applies whether a participant pays AIFS Abroad directly for all, part, or no program fees.

Protecting Your Investment

Participants will have the option of purchasing additional trip cancellation or interruption insurance which allows them to protect their study abroad program.

This policy includes options to cancel for any reason (CFAR) and interrupt for any reason (IFAR). Details of the Worldwide Trip Protector Plans with travel insurance underwritten by the United States Fire Insurance Company, rated A (Excellent) by A.M. Best 2019, are available on the Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) website.

Students may purchase their plan directly through the CISI website. The policy is time sensitive and must be purchased within 21 days of paying the $450 enrollment deposit.
