Henry Provencher retired as chief deputy warden for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at the California Institution for Men (CIM), Chino, California in 2011. Mr. Provencher began his career as a correctional deputy with the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department in 1982 and moved to the California Youth Authority in 1984 as a youth counselor. In 1986, he was promoted to correctional counselor I, II, and III with the California Department of Corrections and assigned to facilities in Frontera, Blythe, and Chino in these positions. He was promoted to correctional lieutenant at CIM in 1989 and to facility captain in 1997. In 2002, Mr. Provencher assumed duties as associate warden at CIM and was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to the position of chief deputy warden in 2009. As a career executive, he has been responsible for all facets of management in business services, human resources, litigation, investigations, training, operations, security, casework services, and policy/procedure development and implementation.

Mr. Provencher was a competitive wrestler during his academic years and in police olympic events, competing across the nation earning numerous league titles, state championships, national and world games placings. He has an active interest in athletics and continues to officiate at football, baseball, and wrestling competitions on the local, state, regional, and national level.

Mr. Provencher holds an Associate in Science from Santa Rosa Junior College, a Bachelor of Science from Sonoma State University, and a master's degree in criminal justice from California State University San Bernardino. He was an adjunct instructor at Citrus College for twenty-one years prior to his employment as a full time instructor.
