FINDING YOUR FIT IN REAL ESTATE
Some people are afraid of sales. That's okay. Real estate is an industry with a variety
of career options, to fit all goals and personalities. You can reach out to academic advising for help in deciding if a career in real estate is right for you. They have great
tools and assessments to help.
CAREERS IN REAL ESTATE
The most familiar career path in real estate is that of a salesperson, often called
an agent, but the industry offers many other opportunities. Graduates can pursue roles
as brokers, appraisers, inspectors, leasing specialists, property managers, commercial
property experts, investors and entrepreneurs.

REAL ESTATE INCOME OUTLOOK
Real estate agents typically earn income through commissions — a percentage of each
property sale they complete — rather than a fixed salary. The more transactions an
agent closes, the higher the earnings, with no set limit on income potential. While
new agents may earn under $20,000 in their first year, those who build strong networks
and gain experience often exceed $100,000 annually, with top performers earning far
more. Success in real estate comes from having a solid plan and executing it with
consistency and determination.
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
In recent years, the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FoundationCCC)
has provided real estate education grants to support courses offered at California
community colleges. Details about eligibility, the application process and a downloadable
application template are available on their Real Estate Education Endowment site. All applications must be submitted online through the California Community Colleges Real Estate Education Center.
